Cumberland Health Care Careers Bursary Program

The Cumberland Health Care Careers Bursary Program is an innovative undertaking of the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and the five health care foundations serving Cumberland County. The primary goal of the program is to assist the NSHA in addressing anticipated human resource shortages in various health care professions in the upcoming years. The program is also intended to encourage Cumberland County's young people to come back to this area to live and work following graduation from post-secondary training.

Under the terms and conditions of the program, which is open only to Cumberland County students, successful applicants receive a bursary to support their studies in a number of health care professions. Student participation includes signing a contract with the health authority for a "return for service" upon graduation equal to the number of years for which they receive a bursary. This means that if a student receives a bursary for four years of study then they will be expected to work for the health authority for four years following graduation. Students will be placed in jobs where there is the greatest need for staff with their type of training and could be at any of the NSHA's Cumberland County facilities which are located in Advocate Harbour, Amherst, Parrsboro, Pugwash and Springhill.

The Cumberland Health Care Careers Bursary Program is supported by the Nova Scotia Health Authority and the All Saints Community Health Care Foundation, Bayview Memorial Health Centre Foundation, Cumberland Health Care Foundation, North Cumberland Memorial Hospital Foundation and the South Cumberland Community Care Centre Foundation.
