The Cumberland Health Authority offers a range of practice opportunities for family physicians as well as specialists. Located in northern Nova Scotia, Cumberland County provides a bit slower pace of day-to-day living combined with easy access to urban centers like Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick. The shire town of Amherst is in the midst of a period of growth that includes new industries and retail stores as well as new schools and a new hospital opened in October 2002.

The CHA currently requires specialists in a variety of areas. With assistance from the Nova Scotia Department of Health, incentive packages are available for a number of the following:

• Internal Medicine
• Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Family Practice

• Two for Amherst area with ER competencies
• One for Parrsboro area to be part of collaborative practice with nurse practitioners (with ER competencies)
• One for Springhill area to be part of collaborative practice with nurse practitioners (with ER competencies)
